If you have misaligned teeth, cracks, discoloration, There are two types of veneers: composite and porcelain. Composite veneers are placed directly on the enamel of existing with or without removal of tooth structure. Composite veneers can be placed in one visit and can be very esthetic. They do, however, lack the esthetic properties of porcelain and can chip or fade more easily.
What is the process like?
Porcelain veneers are placed in two visits. If more significant changes in the teeth are needed, we will sometimes make models of the veneers in wax for you to see before the procedure. This is a good way to preview your teeth and make sure there are not any changes before we start. The first visit requires reduction of the front and top of the teeth to make room for porcelain. We then take an impression of the teeth and send it to the lab to make the veneers. During this time you will have a very natural looking temporary over the restorations. We will likely take photos of your teeth and make numerous measurements to ensure optimal esthetics and function. You may even visit the lab where the veneers are custom made in order to match the subtle colors and translucencies in your teeth. In a few weeks the veneers are bonded to the teeth with a strong cement. Veneers are strong, but you should take care of them as you would your own teeth (don’t use them as a tool, or wear an occlusal guard at night if you grind, etc.). Will proper care and cleanings, veneers can last many years.

Dr. Dan Bruce placed two veneers and composite restorations for this patient. Veneers where needed to regain lost vertical height on the teeth due to wear while removing as little tooth structure as possible. The patient now wears an occlusal guard at night to protect her veneers.
