Full Mouth Reconstruction
When destructive processes such as decay, wear through abrasion or acidic substances, fractures, trauma or bite problems compromise the integrity and function of your whole mouth a full reconstruction may be needed. A full reconstruction is a very involved process. We first need to make accurate models and registrations of the position of your maxilla (top teeth) and your bite. We use these models in conjunction with a thorough examination to assess the reasons why a reconstruction is necessary. The process may also involve wearing a splint to see if muscle pain or clenching can be relieved. This is a great way to "try out" the new bite before committing to a full reconstruction. It is very important to correct the underlying problem with your reconstruction to reduce the risk of failure in the future. Corrective measures may be prescription fluoride, an occlusal guard to wear at night or other measures.
There are many different ways to reconstruct your teeth, but it is a great way to improve the function and esthetics if you are at the point that you need it.
